for the birds

January 16, 2009

so the hottest topic for today is the plane crash in the hudson river. all 155 passengers and crew are alive and safely off the plane. crazy!

[story here or any here]

The plane that Sullenberger landed in the Hudson River, an A-320 manufactured by Airbus, was carrying as many as 148 passengers and five or six crew members, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Only 30 seconds after takeoff, at 3:26 p.m. ET, Sullenberger reported the plane had been struck by two birds and said he wanted to return to LaGuardia Airport.

Controllers began giving him directions for return, but he requested landing clearance at the nearby Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. The tower reportedly lost contact soon after that last transmission.

Daniel and I were just talking about birds hitting airplanes. And how funny it would be to see the feathers fly behind the engine.. but in the case it was funny at all..

Ive flown countless times to and from new york (sometimes on us airways) a couple years back.. I always take these stories to mind.. like.. what if i was on the plane.. that would have scarred the crap outta me.. you never wanna find your self in that type of situation.. but props to the pilot (Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III) on landing the plane and everyone being safe. Truly an amazing story..

Say Whhhattt?!

January 13, 2009

recently a story has appeared on the news that has really caught my attention.. seeing how i just spent good money on a bluetooth :|

The National Safety Council is trying to ban all cell phone use while driving.. including hands free.

CNN reports

“Studies show that driving while talking on a cell phone is extremely dangerous and puts drivers at a four times greater risk of a crash,” said Janet Froetscher, the council’s president and CEO, in a news release, referring to a 1997 New England Journal of Medicine examination of hospital records.

i think if you have a hands free on (and you dont play with your phone while driving) its the same as having a passenger in the car with you. or having the radio on.. what are they going to ban the radio.. ppl take time to look to press for a cd change..

i am with the whole banning cell phones you have to hold.. cuz i agree with that one. you are more focused on the phone.. and if you drop the thing you go to grab it without thinking.. and yeah.. totally agreement.. but not blue tooths..

apparently im not the only one who thinks that way

The cell-phone industry opposes any such ban.

CTIA-The Wireless Association, formerly known as Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association, advocates education over legislation in reducing road accidents.

“Laws aimed just at wireless use create a false sense of security with regard to the issue of distracted driving,” the agency said in a posting on its Web site.

“We believe there can be safe, sensible, responsible use for a brief period of time,” said John Walls, CTIA’s vice president of public affairs, in a telephone interview.

“Just as there is an appropriate time, there is an inappropriate time” to use a cell phone in the car, he said, citing heavy traffic, bad weather and stressful conversations as examples.

CTIA said cell phones are being unfairly singled out from a raft of other potential distractions that could affect safety.

“Numerous studies cite reaching for moving objects, drowsiness, pushing audio buttons, eating, personal grooming, other passengers and reading as some of the many other potential driving distractions,” the organization said. “Wireless use has often been listed behind many of these activities in terms of how distracting of a behavior it might be while driving.”

NSC spokesman Ulczycki agreed that other distractions in the car can also prove dangerous, but said, “None of them are as serious as talking on a cell phone.”

In addition, he noted, cell phones are nearly ubiquitous, with 90 percent of the nation’s 300 million residents having a cell-phone account, according to CTIA.

A Nationwide Insurance public opinion poll reported that 81 percent of the U.S. drivers say they use cell phones at the wheel.

what are your thoughts on it.. i mean.. if cops can drive around (way over the speed limit mind you) typing on aim on their computers in their cars.. why can i have a hands free?

January 5, 2009

so this past weekend daniel has been away hunting.. and since he doesnt get a signal out there.. are talk time has been very limited..
he calls me when he is about to head out at 6-ish but we only talk for a second.. then i get to talk to him a short time during lunch (except for on saturday.. sigh) and then i wait until about 7:00 where he calls me.. just to say a quick hi and then goes to dinner.. and then finally at 8:00 i get to talk to him till he goes to bed.

for the past few months i have seen him like everyday.. and when i dont see him.. i text him.. or call him..

so this weekend has been KILLING ME.. i know.. i know.. i should be used to the long distance thing.. given my background.. but going from seeing someone everyday.. to barely talking is super hard.. AND.. daniel and i care for each other very much.. he makes me super happy and i love every second spent with him.

so .. moral of the story i guess is.. i miss that kid soo much and im going insane being apart from him like this.. i dooooo not wanna do this again.. cuz it suuuuucks

yay for a new year!

January 2, 2009

i always like having a new year.. i feel like its a fresh new start on things. last year started out kind of rough with leaving the church and wrecking my beloved tiburon. sigh. but by years end things were looking up. i got my eyes fixed so no worrying about being blind anymore. and i met the most awesome guy in the world. my brother got married.. and built a house.
yeah 2008 was a okay year.. but i wonder what 2009 has in store.
my plan so far is to”
pay off all my bills (or most of them) (which includes)
computer
credit cards
eyes (lasik bill)
most of my truck.

also trade in my stupid truck for a tiburon. i loved that car.. and i want it back.
so im going to pay enough on the truck where i can get money back on it. and then buy a car. yesss

the way i see it.. ill have my bills paid by july-ish if i stick to living like im poor.. and gas prices stay about the same without going up.

ill be so happy when i get all my bills paid off. i kinda was set back last year. with having a truck that i had to pay more on.. and then getting eye surgery.. so im hoping for no surprises this year.
